so much for being casual....

Since yesterday was technically Friday at work and I wouldn't see too many people, I decided to 'dress down'. So, I opted for a nice and comfy long-sleeved striped tee. But, then I remembered that I had shoes that matched really well and ended up in a skirt anyway! I also matched a necklace, and then earrings to go with the necklace. I wore camel and black shadows and gold lip gloss to match my makeup. Since I needed to dress up the top (even after putting on a skirt), I thought it would be cute to twist my hair up into a scarf for a quick little updo and also wore a blazer. Lastly, I wore a matching scarf with my winter jacket when outdoors (gifted separately from when the shirt was purchased-- the necklace and scarf just happen to match the shirt really well.)

Salvaging and resurrecting a belt

Yay, it's Friday! For me, that usually means I like to try something a little more casual than other weekdays (in other words, push the envelope). I matched these cute antique-looking booties with an old leather and rope belt and brushed gold earrings to go with the accents on both the belt and shoes. For makeup, I wore cream and plum shadows and magenta lip crayon, all to match the rope on the belt. To break up all the black, (skirt, tights and long sleeve shirt), I wore a cream colored sweater.

Belt: hand-me-down from an Aunt, Express from the 80s or 90s
Shoes: Frugal Fannies, Chinese Laundry, $35-40
Sweater: Christmas gift a few years ago
Earrings: given to me from Aunt

Punk Rock Professional?

Yesterday, I wore this adorable cropped moto jacket. I haven't worn it to work, yet, because I didn't think I could pull it off as business-like enough. So-- I took advantage of the fact that I wasn't meeting with anyone. I paired the jacket with a charcoal striped top, which really made the look more...emo. To go with the accents on the jacket, I wore silver spike earrings and pointy ankle zip-up boots (same color zipper (not shown)). With all of this edginess- for work, at least-- I made sure to wear dress pants and to wear my hair up to keep the outfit more professional. Last, but not least, I wore charcoal eye shadow to go with the striped shirt.

Jacket: T.J. Maxx, $19.99
Earrings; Burlington Coat Factory, 3 pairs, $3.99-$4.99
Ankle Boots: Rue 21, clearance, $7

I'm no prep

Today, I wore a matching lavender and navy sweater and blouse combo along with some matching navy blue pinstripe pants. To complete this preppy look, I wore white oversized pearls, and then an, edgier, pearl and chain multistrand necklace, which looks cute with the cowl neck. I put my hair in a retro low pony to stylize the outfit a little- I wouldn't want people thinking I'm preppy! For makeup, I wore lavender and navy blue shadows along with navy blue gel liner. I wore grey wedge ankle boots (not shown).

Sweater and blouse: both NY&Co, purchased a couple years ago on sale, BOGO free, $??
Necklace: Christmas gift a few years ago, Vera Wang for Kohl's
Earrings: purchased on eBay last year, approx. $2
Pants: purchased online at Alloy a few years ago, $20-30
Eye makeup: Lavender- Ulta, gift; Navy: Avon, from many moons ago; liner: Ulta, part of a makeup kit from a couple years ago. Christmas gift

Arsty Fartsy

Today I wore this new jersey duster I got recently on clearance. I wore a scarf to match and then shoes to match the scarf. I wore olive green and deep brown eye shadows and maroon lip gloss to go with the scarf, as well. This outfit really needed a belt, but better to not wear one if you don't have one that matches. I kept my earrings simple because I find that, when I wear too much dangle with this scarf, it makes me look too artsy.

Duster: $8.50, Ltd. Commodities, clearance
Scarf: given to me
Shoes: $15-19, Charlotte Russe, sale
Earrings; $3.99, Burlington Coat Factory, set of three

Shiny Happy People

On Wednesday, I matched a studded, high low top with spike gold earrings, gold spiked heels and a multi-strand bracelet (one of my favorites). The bracelet includes all colors of metal that are on the shirt's studs. I also wore bronze-shimmer eye-shadow and gold lip gloss.

Top: free(?) with a $10 off coupon, Bob's stores
Bracelet: Chico's, given to me from Aunt
Earrings: purchased in a set of three, $5, Burlington Coat Factory
Heels: $15-19, Charlotte Russe, sale
Eyeshadow: free with purchase, Ulta

Perfect pair

I purchased these earrings for .59cents (!!!!) a couple weeks ago and look how perfect they are with this scarf!

#1 won the vote!

I went with number 1 as per the two votes received. (This is what I wanted, anyway.) I matched peach earrings with my top, which matches my skirt and shoes. I wore a black sweater and tights to both stay warm and break up the outfit. I wore the shirt's matching belt on the outside of my cardigan to accent my shape and also bring the outfit together- since the black sweater separates the belt and matching top, this allows the black to be introduced into the outfit without looking random. I also matched my eyeshadow with peach and maroon and my lip gloss with maroon.

Skirt: $7, Sale, Rue 21
Shoes: $15-18, sale, Charlotte Russe
Top: $5-8?, clearance, Rue 21 (a few years ago)- belt included
Earrings: ???, clearance with other pairs, Rue 21 (a few years ago)
Makeup: shadow quad- both free with purchase, Ulta; lip gloss- also free with purchase, Ulta

Matching a mismatched outfit

I've worn these shoes with this scarf  before and I've also worn this high low shirt...but not together. The peach works well with the maroon shoes and scarf because the top and bottom of the outfit match, broken up by the peach. Then, the peach flower earrings go with the shirt, which is broken up by the scarf. The black jeggings also go with the scarf.  Lastly,i matched my makeup with maroon and  peach shadows and maroon lip gloss. I really liked the way this outfit came together. Not only are the shoes, shirt and scarf cute, but the colors were fun to pull together.

Hon, does this shirt make me look...

...like a lamp or a set of drapes?

I got this shirt recently and was such a good deal, I couldn't pass it up...even though it might be tough to pull this one off (literally and figuratively). I happen to love camel and black together, so pulling together the colors for this outfit was fun. I wore these black and camel color block heels and tan antique-ish earrings. To pull the flapper look together entirely, I wore my hair tucked into a scarf (hair done in the car yesterday morning and surprisingly needed no bobby pins!) My eye shadow was camel shimmer and black and I wore gold lip gloss. I swapped to a matching black hobo purse with gold accents to go with the gold earrings. And, for the cool morning and evening, I grabbed a blazer. Loved this look!

New jewelry week

I put my new bargain buy jewelry to work this week by arranging my outfits around the new treasures. I matched the bow necklace with my black and white shoes because they both have a criss-cross pattern. Better yet, they both have gold tones. And, I coordinated other new jewelry items with jewelry I already owned. As you can see, some go quite well together...
